Jeffrey Schpero, DVM, Owner

Dr. Jeffrey Schpero loves being a veterinarian in Derby, where he has practiced veterinary medicine since 1985 as principal of Veterinary Associates of Derby, LLC. He has lovingly cared for generations of beloved area pets and clients. Dr. Schpero studied Veterinary Medicine at Areneta University, Manila, and completed his clinical work at the University of Tennessee.

Born in Derby and a lifelong resident of the area, Dr. Schpero always knew he wanted to be a veterinarian, finding work from a very young age at a local animal hospital. After graduating from veterinary school, he interned at Central Veterinary Hospital in North Haven, where he is now a partner.

Dr. Schpero and his wife Molly share their home with a Border Terrier named Fig. Over the years, he and his family, now including two grown sons, and a lovely daughter-in-law and granddaughter, have enjoyed the company of red vent cockatoos, saltwater fish, land and water frogs, mice, guinea pigs, hamsters, kittens, cats, and several feisty Jack Russell terriers.

When he is not caring for his patients, Dr. Schpero enjoys every type of cooking and baking, daily walks with his dog, and swimming in Long Island Sound.

Dr. Schpero is always challenged and excited by the many facets of veterinary medicine—from performing surgery to interacting with his clients and pet patients daily. He is proud that he and his dedicated staff can offer the best quality care for companion animals.
